SLIP ON RAILWAY.
MANAWATU GORGE TROUBLE. THE LINE STILL BLOCKED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —rRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON NORTH, Wednesday. Another large gang of men arrived this morning from Wanganui in charge of the district engineer, and proceeded to the scene of the landslide in Manawatu Gorge, which has blocked the railway since Sunday morning. No work was done last night, owing to constant danger from falls of debris, but, with augmented forces, it is hoped to have the line clear by the end of the week, provided there is no further rainfall. A special service has been inaugurated between Ashurst and Palmerston North and will be continued until the slip has been cleared. The Napier-Wellington expresses will continue to bo diverted via Wairarapa.
