STARTLING EXPLOSION.
ACCIDENT IN LABORATORY. THREE ASSISTANTS INJURED. MANY WINDOWS SHATTERED. CAUSE NOT KNOWN DEFINITELY. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday Three assistants at the Dominion laboratory in Sydney Street West were injured about the face and head this morning as the result of an explosion in the laboratory. Whai was the cause of the explosion is not known, but it-is understood that it occurred while one of the staff was engaged in the process of nitrating oil. The explosion startled people in the neighbourhood of the laboratory and was heard some distance away. A quantity of glass on one of the benches in the laboratory and all the windows on the south side were broken. * It is not considered that the injuries to the men will prove serious.
