The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated October 23, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Butter.—The market is quiet. Official quotations are : New Zealand.—Finest salted: October 23. 144s to 146s per cwt.; October 16, 136s to 144s (exceptional) 148s. Unsalted: October 23, 166s to 17^s; October 16, 166s to 170s. Other qualities: October 23, 134s to 138s. Australian.—Salted: October 23, 138s to 144s per cwt.; October 16, 134s to 1445. (exceptional) 1465. Unsalted: October 23, 164s to 1665; October 16, 164s to 1665. Other qualities: October 23, 112s to 1365. Present quotations are:—Mutton: Fine, 44s per cwt.; fair to good, 41s to 435; dark to dull, 39s to 40s. Beef: Sweet and (or) mixed, 42s 6d to 455; fair to good, 40s 6d to 42s 6d; dark to dull, 38s to 395. Mixed: Fair to good, 40s to 425: dark to dull, 38s to 395. Gut, etc.: 36s to 38s 6d. Hemp.—The Manila market was firmer early this week, but easier toward the close. J grade, October-December shipments quoted at £45. Stocks in Manila on September 30 were 147,000 bales, against 157,000 bales at the same time last year. In Great Britain stocks were 9527 bales, against 35,924 bales last year. The Sisal market is quiet, but steady. Tanganyika No. 1, October-December shipments are quoted at £43. Tow is scarce and valued at £3O 15s. It is reported that the Mexican soiling organisation has reduced prices 20s per 'ton, bnt this is not confirmed yet. Offerings at European ports are at £4O. The New Zealand market is firm with an improved demand. Business was reported in highpoints late last week up to £3B 10s. October-December shipments arc now quoted by sellers at the same figures. Fair: October-December shipments sold at £35 15s. Stocks in Great Britain at September 30 were 21 tons, against 135 tons at the same time last year. Wool.—The Bradford market is weaker on overseas advices and the difficulties of the industrial situation. Present quotations are for tops:—64's (merino), warp, 4s per lb.; 64's (merino), average, 3s lid; 56's (super halfbred), 2s 8d; 50's (fine crossbred), 2s 2d; 40's (prepared), Is B|d. Apples. American: The London market is dull and depressed, mainly owing to the large quantity here. Inferior quality boxed (Jox's Orange Pippin are quoted at 20s to 255. Other sort 3, 7s 6d to 12s. Barreled Jonathans, Staymans, Winesap, Ben Davies and Baldwin, 15s to 20s. Shipments of New Zealand produce arrived this week per S.S. Kotorua. EXPORT OF EGGS. THE SEASON'S LAST SHIPMENT. The third and final shipment of eggs from New Zealand to London this season will be made by the Tamaroa, which is duo to leave the Dominion about November 20. The vessel* will take about 30.000 dozen eggs, bringing the total quantity shipped this season up to 105,000 dozen. The first shipment wa's made by the Corinthic in September and the seoond by the lonic this month. The Corinthic's consignment totalled 40 000 dozen and the lonic's 35.000. The Quantity of eggs sent from Christchurch this .season is 15.000 dozen more than the ouantity sent from the rest of New Zealand. CITRUS FRUIT TRADE. QUESTION OF ASSISTANCE. Nosworthy on behdf of the Minister of Agriculture has advised the Bav of Plenty development l,;agua that while he is anxious to assis!, the citrus growers of New Zealand it is not at all easy to determine the best way in which this can be done and if the league has any suggestions to offer ho will be pleased to give them careful consideration. Regarding tho competition of Italian lemons he says the possibility of increasing the duty has been discussed with the Customs Department, the Minister in charge of which has promised to give the matter his careful consideration when the tariff is being revised next year, j Under the treaty at present in forco between New Zealand and Italy there is no power to impose depreciated currency duty on goods imported from Italy. HIDES AND SHEEPSKINS. AUCKLAND MARKET PRICES. There km little fluctuation in prices at | the fortnightly hides and skin sales yesterday. Cow hides were sold at practically the same raten ruling at the last stale, but ox hides, which have been bringing high prices for some time, were inalined t-o ease somewhat. Thero was little change in the market for sheepskins. Tho following prices were realised:— Hides.—Cow: Best grades, light, Gjjd to 6Jd; medium to heavy GJd to 63d per lb; second and cut. 5d to s!d; rough and slippy, 3Sd to -Id.
