PROFESSIONAL BOXING.

HEENEY BEATS STANLEY, LIVELY FINISHING ROUNDS. * Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 10.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 25. The New Zealand boxer Torn Heeney to-day defeated Jack Stanley on points in a bout at the National Sporting Club. The New Zealander was superior throughout and if his blows had not lacked power Stanley would easily have been knocked out. The Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr. J. C>. Coates, was present and he congratulated Heeney in his dressing room after the contest, Both Stanley and Heeney were in good form and fought hard throughout. There was a curious'similarity about each round. Heeney invariably rushed in and hit out. Then the fighters closed and in-fighting was followed by the delivery of uppercuts until there was a momentary breakaway. But the men were soon head to head again, in spite of the referee's interventions. Stanley made some use of his superiority in height, but Heeney staggered him with a left and right to the jaw in the second round. Heeney maintained his superiority in the third round, though his face blows had little sting. Stanley made a better show in the fourth, but Heeney brolce away and scored to the face and body. At the end of the round both were fighting hard. In the fifth Stanley was endeavouring to avoid his opponent's punches. When Heeney landed his blows were relatively ineffective. There were few good straight rights from either man, and no spectacular bouts, but the last four rounds were lively. Heeney tried hard to bring off a knock-out. Stanley, however, covered himself well. There is no doubt that if Heeney's blows had had real power the contest would have ended long before, as the New Zealander -was - on top practically in every round. Sporting Life says Heeney's industry in the early stages, backed by his grand I finish, earned him the verdict.
