LOADS OF VEHICLES.
RECENT ACCIDENT RECALLED BY-LAW QUESTION DEFERRED. A recent accident in Albert Street, in which a collision occurred through the driver of a, motor-bus failing to notice a steel girder overhanging a motor-lorry, has redirected the attention of the City Council to the question of introducing a suitable by-law to provide, against such accidents. The Legal and Finance Committee last evening recommended the council to draw up a by-law providing that in future overhanging loads on vehicles, horse or motordriven. projecting more than 10ft. must carry a rod flag attached to the extremity of the load by day, and a red light by night. In addition no overhanging load on a vehicle shall be permitted to exceed 15ft.- unless a permit is obtained from the chief traffic inspector and the route and time for the carriage of the load are defined. The matter was deferred for further consideration.
