MOVE FOR UNIFORMITY.

AUCKLAND LOCAL BODIES. TRANSPORT AND PUNNING. CONFERENCE TO BE CALLED. A conference of representatives of all local bodies in the area between Henderson and Manurewa and the four North Shore boroughs, is to bo called by the Auckland City Council for November 4 to discuss administrative matters arising out of the Motor Omnibus Traffic Act, i the Towii Planning Act and the Local Authorities Loans Board Act, all placed on the Statute Book this year. It is hoped that as an outcome of the conference a greater measure of co-operation than has hitherto existed will result and enable the local authorities concerned to arrive at some mutual understanding when dealing with the many problems affecting all interests within the metropolitan area. The decision to call the conference was arrived at by the City Council last evening. The proposal had its beginning on September 16, when a deputation representing the professions of architecture, engineering and surveying waited on the council and made proposals for the procedure to be adopted when tho future planning of the city and its environs is taken up. Tho services of the members of these professions were offered in connection with this great work. At a later stage Mr.. T. Bloodworth, a member of the City Council, suggested that a conference of all local bodies in tho greater Auckland area should be called to consider tho matter of planning and administration. Tho matter was taken up by the council, having in mind the provisions of the three Acts mentioned, and it was then agreed that tho conference should discuss the proposal put forward by the deputation of professional men, questions of administration arising out of the three Acts and any matter having for its objective tho better development or more efficient administration of the area or of serviees under the control of the authorities to be invited to the conference.

A committee consisting of the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, the chairmen of the standing committees of the council and Mr. Bloodworth, which was set up to draw up an agenda and make the necessary arrangements, met at the Town Hall yesterday morning. Mi*. Bloodworth suggested the date for the first conference should be November 4, and that it should be held in the Town Hall concert chamber in the evening. He further proposed that a letter should be sent to each of the local bodies inviting them to be at the conference and to state before October 28 how many delegates would be in attendance. In the meantime an agenda paper could be propared and supplied to the delegates, so that they could come prepared. At the meeting of the council last evening the committee recommended that the conference should be csilled for November 4, and that the personnel of all local bodies within the limits settled by the council should be invited to attend, the business of the conference being the discussion of questions arising out of the three Acts named. recommendation was adopted. The Civic Centre Select Committee of the council, reporting on the proposal made by Mr. G. Brownlee that the order of reference of the Civic Centre' Commission should be enlarged to embrace consideration of the best means to adopt in providing main or arterial roads to carry the city's traffic, expressed the opinion that the matters suggested by Mr. Brownlee were outside the scope of the present inquiry and were more especially matters which would be considered and dealt with under the Town Planning Act.
