MAORI ARTS AND CRAFTS.
HELP FROM GOVERNMENT. APPRECIATION BY ARAWAS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTOBUA. Thursday. Rotorua Maoris are enthusiastic in their congratulations to the Government in passing th'e Maori Arts and Crafts Act last session. At to-day's meeting of the Arawa Trust Board, which the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. R, F. Bollard, attended, several speakers -eulogised the Government on the legislation passed. Air. Bollard said that some people were prone to say that the Maori nowadays did not bother much about the arts and crafts of his ancestors. That was a wrong impression, as the members of the Arawa Trust Board had that day pfoved. The aim of the Government in passing legislation was to help the Maori in his work, which everybody admitted merited high praise. The personnel of the board to be set up under the Act was at present the consideration of the Government. The Minister hoped to be able shortly to make an announcement.
