In connection with the alleged attempt to derail "Field's Express" on Saturday evening, Senior-Detective Quirke states that investigation has revealed not tho slightest visible evidence of any attempt to interfere with the line,' and he scouts the suggestion of attempted train wrocking. A report from Palmerston North on Sunday stated that the three attempts to wieck the limited express in the vicinity of Palmerston North last March and April were recalled by an incident that occurred about 7.30 o'clock on Saturday evening. Two young men were interrupted in an apparent attempt to loosen a rail on tine line near the Awapuni siding about three miles from Palmerston North. A settler who arrived at the crossing had his suspicions aroused when f.lio two men dashed away on bicycles which one had been holding. The railway authorities were warned and instituted an inspection. It was found that pins attached to fishplates had been bent and some had been partly drawn.
