MOTHERS' UNION.

At Government House, Wellington, last week the first annual meeting of the Dominion Council of the Mothers' Union was held. Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson (Dominion president) was in the chair, A cable from Mrs. Wilberforce, acting central president, London, was received, congratulating the council on its formation and wishing the union every success. The Mothers' Union recently celebrated its jubilee, and now has a membership of nearly half a million. There were representatives from all the dioceses present, Auckland, Wellington, Napier, Nelson, Christchur'ch and Dunedin. A most helpful and interesting conference was held. Various subjects relating to the work of the action were well discussed, and delegates felt that the gathering together of members of the various council's was most beneficial. The delegates .were the guests of Lady Alice Fergusson during the day. Tho secretary nresented a report in which it was stated that the union now has 114 branches, with a membership of 3574.. The report will be circulated in the various dioceses. The three objects 6f the union are:—(l) To uphold the sane-- - tity of marriage; (2) to awake in all mothers a sense of their responsibility in the training of their boys and girls—the fathers and moihers of the future; (3) to organise in .every place a band of mothers who will unite in prayer and seek by their example to lead their families in purity and holiness of life.
