RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM.
YORK SIDE DEFEATED. GARDINER'S FINE KICKING. A. and N.Z. LONDON. Oct. 6. The New Zealand Rugby League footballers to-day defeated York by 19 points (five goals and threo tries) to 11 (one goal and three tries). The visitors' team was: Gregory, Parkes, Kirwan, Sanders, Gardiner, Webb, Hall, Carroll, Herring, Henry, Thomas, Peterson and Avery. There were six changes from the test match team. A great feature of the game was Gardiner's brilliant kicking. He had only fivo shots and all were successful. Peterson scored a try in the first half and New Zealand had a single point lead 15 minutes before time. York proved to be a stubborn side. It was the superior • staying powers of the visitors rather than superior football which gave them the upper hand. \ork began to tire. Kirwan's great forcing try practically settled the issue, but Gardiner scored a further try. York had the advantage in most of the scrummages but the visitors were superior in the loose. The Yorkshireme.i failed to throw the ball about sufficiently but they tackled well.
The stars among the New Zealandefs were Gregory, Webb, Avery and Henry. The last-named is an old York forward.
