WHISKY FOUND IN BAG.

PROSECUTION AT RAETIHI. STRENUOUS DENIAL MADE. PENAL,TY OF FIFTY POUNDS, [ur tkusgraph.—own* correspondent. ] RAETIHI. Thursday. In the Magistrate's Court yesterday .Albert, John Gunderson was charged with keeping liquor for sale in a no-licenco area. The police evidence was to the effect that, on the morning of September 17 accused was seen leaving town with a bag. The police waited for his return and he arrived at about 11 p.m. by passenger bus. He made no attempt to leave the bus until the police went out of sight. Accused then left the bus and had a bag and a parcel handed him by the driver. Accused went into a motor shed in the town and left the bag, after which ho was alleged to have dropped the parcel behind a building. The police found both bag and the parcel, which contained bottles of whisky. When accused was charged with being the owner of the bag and parcel he denied all knowledge of them. Accused, in evidence, said he went to Taihape on Sepetmber 17 but denied taking a hag with him. He brought a parcel with him on his return. It contained fish. Ho went to meet his wife, who was at a dance, and left the parcel of fish in the hall. On going to get it afterwards he was charged by the police with being the owner of a bag containing bottles of whisky. He strenuously donied ownership.

The magistrate said that it was qnite clear to him that it was not a case of mistaken identity. For being in possession of the liquor accused would be fined £SO and cost 3.
