CHINESE AND OPIUM.
PENALTIES AT PALM ERST ON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRK-R ASSOCIATION.) PALMKRSTON NORTH. Thursday. As a sequel to a recent raid on a Chinese tobacconist shop in Main Street, three Chinese appeared before Justices this morning. Lye Long was charged with permitting opium smoking on his premises, Sing King was charged with being in posession of opium suitable for smoking, and Gin No was charged with smoking opium. Accused, who were represented by counsel, pleaded guilty. King was fined £l2 10s, in default two months' imprisonment, Long £lO. in default two months imprisonment, and Oin No was fined £5, in default, one month's imprisonment, liong was before the Court in July, 1924, for a similar offence.
