OBITUARY
MR. NORMON GORTON. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. ] FEILDING, Thursday. Mr. Norman Gorton, 60 years of age, collapsed t his morning while he was preparing a valuation of stock at Ferns Flats, Marton, and died before the arrival of a doctor. Mr. Gorton was the doyen of the auctioneering business in Manawatu. Tie began operations at Bulls in ■ 1879 and became manager of the Feilding branch of the Levin Company. In 1916 he retired. Ho was the bestknown stock auctioneer atid land valuer on the west coast.
MR. J. G. PATERSON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WANGANUI, Thursday. The death is announced of Mr. James Charles Paterson, one of Wanganui's wellknown He was a son of the late Mr. William Paterson, a pioneer settler. He was educated at the Collegiate School,' and inherited the famous Gordon Park property. For many years he was a member of the Wanganui County Council, to which he was elected in 1886. As a steward of the Wanganui Jockey Club ho was a zealous worker for clean racing and the advancement of the club. He is survived by a widow and a grovwiup family.
MR. GEORGE SHE AT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDED.] CHRISTCHUECn, Thursday. Mr. George Sheat, a well-known Canterbury farmer, died suddenly at hi;-, residence at Dunsandel this ' morning. The late Mr. Sheat was very well known in farming circles throughout the province and beyond it. Ho was a member of the executive of the North Canterbury branch of the Now Zealand Farmers' Union and also of t.ho Dominion executive, l'ie unsuccessfully contested the Biccarfcon seat on one occasion.
