AMATEUR BOXING.

DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. FINAL CONTESTS DECIDED. KEEN BOUTS WITNESSED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER. Sunday. The New Zealand amateur boxing championships concluded last night before a large attendance. The 1 rest on Challenge Shield was won from Napier by Wellington. Results. Bantam-weight.—Semi-finals'. I'. laylor (Auckland) beat D. Kilpatiick (Wellington); N. Kielev (Greymouth) beat H. Larsen (Wellington). Final: Taylor beat Kieley. The latter opened smartly but Taylor soon recovered and led on points at the end of the second round. The Greymouth lad made au effort to catch lip the leeway in the third round, but the Aucklander was equal to the occasion and secured the verdict. Flv-weight.—Final: L. Purton (Greymouth) bent X. Cnmmick (Auckland). This pair gave a bright exhibition and the}' were popular with the onlookers. Feather-weight.—J. Franklin (Gisborne) beat R. Forward (Wangantii) ; T. Donovan (New Plymouth) beat N. Reeve. (Taneatua) ; J. Leckie (Otago) beat Franklin. Final: Leckic beat Donovan. The latter rushed matters at the opening, but Leckie smothered well and leturned some telling lefts. The Taranaki man's face was a target for well-directed lefts and rights. In the second round Donovan went for a knock-out, but his swings were wild. Keeping a steady head the Otago boy fought Donovan to a standstill.

Light-weight.—Semi-final: H. Kindley (Otago) beat E. Morgan (Wellington). Final: Morgan beat Phillips, (Hastings). Phillips was floored for eight in the second round. He came up smiling, but was sent down again and the referee stopped the fight. Welter-weight.—J. Nelson (Greymouth) beat F. Smitheram (North Otago); R. La Roussen (Auckland) beat T. Urwin (Wellington). Final: Nelson beat La Rousse. The contest was tame in the first two rounds, but in the last the Aucklander inflicted some effective blows. The judges disagreed and the referee's decision in favour of Nelson was loudly disapproved. Middle-weight.—C. Pocock • (Christcburck) beat A. Mitchell (Auckland); A. Cleverley (Wellington) beat A. Cotter (Greymouth). Final: Cleverley beat Pocock. The winner made good use of his height and reach to find his opponent's jaw. Pocock improved toward the end of the second round and was-aggres-sive in the third, but he was too far behind to turn the scale. It was a gruelling fight and went to Cleverley on the referee's decision.

Light heavy-weight.—Final: G. Evatt (Wellington) beat A. Hogg (Auckland). This was a splendid contest almost all way, fortunes fluctuating. . The verdict was applauded. Heavy-weight.—S. Lewis (Wairoa) beat Heyden (Auckland). Final: Lewis beat B. Hooper (Wellington). Lewis was aggressive in the second round and inflicted severe punishment. Hooper was warned for holding and wrestling and in the third round was disqualified.
