PETROL-PUMP TANKS.
ERECTION UNDER FOOTPATHS LIABILITY FOR ■ ACCIDENTS. An. .applications for permission to" erect a petrol pump near Brown's Bay brought before the Waitemata County Council yesterday the question of liability for accidents arising from containers built under the footpath. In a report the clerk said the council, in allowing tanks to be erected underneath the footpath, was accepting liability in cohriecfioli with any explosion under the footpaths. He recommended that any permits: granted .should bo made revocable at any time, and that the applicant', should provide a bond with sureties or a cover from a guarantee company indemnifying the council.' The fee simple of the roads was vested in the Crown' and the connclj really had no authority to grant permits for tanks under the footpath. • ' ' It was decided,- ih granting permits for petrol pumps, to stipulate that the fuel containers must be placed on private property. .
