NEW YORK FOG-BOUND.
TRAFFIC GREATLY DELAYED. CITY AND HARBOUR AFFECTED. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Aug. 25. An unusually heavy fog enveloped New York and the vicinity to-day. Traffic was seriously hampered in the streets and on the harbour. Liners which were due early in the morning were delayed outside the entrance to the harbour, and could not be docked for many hours. Smaller vessels were forced to operate with extreme caution. Street traffic had to be slowed down considerably. Steamers from Boston, Providence and elsewhere were delayed so long that many passengers landed miles from the docks and completed the trip to the city in taxicabs or by subway trains.
