MR. COATES' DEPARTURE

PROBABLY SEPTEMBER 14. WORK STILL TO BE DONE. LICENSING AND RURAL CREDITS. [BT. TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL : REPORTER.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. Ii is now almost certain that the Prime Minister will not leave for the Imperial Conference until September 14, that is to say, by the Makura, which sails for San Francisco on that date. No authoritative statement on the subject was made until to-day when Mr. Coates, in reply to an inquiry, said he did not see how it would be possible for him to leave next week. " I shall have to stay while the Licensing Amendment Bill is before the House," he added. "Then there are the question of rural credits and other matters which cannot be postponed." Mr. Coates will be entertained at dinner on Monday by the Legislative Council. If the Prime Minister's departure is to be postponed it is possible that Parliament will make an effort to close down at the end of next week instead of using the whole of the extra fortnight.
