HOCKEY COMPETITIONS.
DEVONPORT SHIELD CONTEST FIRST ROUND TO-MORROW. MATCHES AT REMUERA GROUND. The opening games in the Devonport Shield hockey competition will be played at the Remuera grounds to-morrow afternoon. The contest between University and Areta to be played on No. 1 ground should provide a fine exhibition. The early game will be between Wesley and Somerville. Wesley's victory over Areta last Saturday indicates that it may form strong opposition for the club champions. St. Luke's will play Somervillo Colts on No. 2 ground, while the game on No. 3 will be contested by Stanley and Mount Eden. Matches in the junior grades will also be played. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAUIiANGA, Thursday. The Tauranga Hockey Association's competitions were continued yesterday. The Innes Cup match oeiween. True Blues and Kiwis was won by True Blues by 2 goals to 1. L. Green and P. Allely scored for the winners and J. McCaldm for Kiwis. Two games were played in the Gray Cup competition, when Aretas defeated Triers by 5 goals to 2. and Hinemoas beat School by G goals to 4.
