REGULATING THE SUPPLY. CASE OF NEAR-BY FARMERS. COUNCIL'S INTERESTS CONSERVED [BY TELEGRAPH.—-SPECIAL REPORTER..] WELLINGTON, Friday. Material alterations in the Wellington City Milk Supply Amendment Bill are proposed by the Local Bills Committee of the House of Representatives in a report presented to-day. ' The bill sets up a Wellington City milk supply board to exercise general controlover the supply and to fix the prices to be- paid by the City Council's milk department' to its suppliers. It also sets up a milk supply control commission consisting of the Director-General of Health and the Director-General of Agriculture to regulate and, supervise the retail 1 sale of milk in the city. The committee proposes that instead of this commission being established the, City Council ; be authorised to license nearby farmers as milk vendors, under certain definite conditions designed to .restrict competition with the « municipal milk supply. The farmers are to sell only milk or cream produced on their farms.; They may sell it from the farms or from their own carts, but may not establish shops or sale depots or employ agents or vendors other than their own full time employees engaged solely in the business. Appeals concerning the issue of licenses are to be heard and decided by a stipendiary magistrate. Licenses niay be issued only to farmers with' farms not more than two miles from the city; The committee proposes to amend the definition of " dairy " in ' the 1919 Act by restricting it to dairy farms and buildings thereon. The section providing for the supply of milk from dairies adjacent to the city is to be ' repealed and ' the licences thereunder are to be revoked. DEALING IN BOTTLES.
