SERUM CONDEMNED.

TUBERCULOSIS TREATMENT. FAILURE IN AUSTRALIA. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Aug. 12. The Federal Minister of Health and Defence, Sir Neville Howse, to-day laid on the table of the House of Representatives a report dealing' with tests of Dr. Smalpage's auti-tuberculosis serum. The final reports of the medical committees which have been investigating the matter have only been received from Victoria and Queensland In the other States the committees have not completed their inquiries. The Federal Government has, however, decided to abandon all further tests oi the serum, as it considers that it has proved to be a failure. The report of the Victorian committee states that in no case has improvement resulted from treatment with tho serum. Neither the latter nor an extract from it has proved to be of any value in the treatment of the cases affected. The majority of the cases treated are worse, and five of 17 patients died. The Queensland committco said further tests wero not only unnecessary but would possibly prove injurious to patients.
