HAMILTON BOROUGH.

■ PROGRESS OF BUILDING. THE REGULATION OF TRAFFIC. [BY TELEdRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Thursday. The Hamilton Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Few, presiding. It was reported that 20 permits for new buildings, to the value -of £5616 were granted in Hamilton in July. The Railway Department wrote declining to remove the advertising sign painted on the iron girders of the Claudelands subway. Regret was expressed that the department had not consulted the council before entering into the contract. On the casting vote of the Mayor it •was decided not to open a branch" rates collection office at Frankton. • The appointment of an additional traffic inspector was confirmed. Members stated there was far too much speeding and reckless driving in Hamliton and its suburbs and that more rigorous control of the traffic was necessary. Arrangements are being made between the Whitiora School Committee and the Auckland Savings Bank to introduce the new savings bank system in the Whitiora school. The co-operation of the headmaster of the school, Mr. F. W. Hare, has been obtained. It is proposed to inaugurate the scheme as soon' as permission has been received from the Education Board.
