THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE.
AFFAIRS IN AUCKLAND. AN INQUIRY TO BE HELD. [BY telegraph.—special reporter.} WELLINGTON. Tuesday. In the course of a brief discussion on the Education Amendment Bill in the House to-day the Minister of Education, Hon. R. A. Wright, mentioned that it was intended to .hold an inquiry into the affairs of the Seddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland. Mr. Wright stated subsequently that the px-oposal was to appoint a commissioner to inquire into allegations made by Mr. George Laing, workshop instructor at the college. Mr. Laing petitioned Parliament in August last year alleging that many students of the college were not receiving proper instruction. This he claimed was indicated by the high proportion of failures at the 1924 public service examinations. Mr. Laing also alleged that the director, Mr. G-. J. Park, had made charges against certain instructors on the staff and had not given them an opportunity of rebuttal. He asked that a Judge of the Supreme Court be appointed to inquire into his allegations. The petition was referred to the Education Committee but was held over until the present session.
