INTERNATIONAL ATHLETICS. BRITAIN DEFEATS FRANCE. A. and N.Z. PARIS. July 25. At an intex-national athletics meeting at the Colombes Stadium Britain defeated France by 63 points to 48. The winners of the chief events were:— 100 Metres. —Gill (Britain). Time: 10 4-ss. " 400 Metres.—Rinkel (Britain). Time: 49 2-ss. 800 Metres. —Lowe (Britain). Time: lm. 52 2-ss. Hurdles (120yds.).—Gaby (Britain). Time: 15 2-ss. Lord Burghley was second in this event, but was disqualified for knocking down hurdles. Discus Throwing.—Paoli (France), 38.71 metres. 5000 Metres.—Johnson (Britain) caused a surprise in this race by beating Guillemot (France) in 15m. 0 2-ss.
NEW SWIMMING RECORD. , ARNE BORG'S 400 YARDS. Renter. NEW YORK. July 25. The Swedish champion swimmer, Arne Borg, set a new world's record for 400 yds. (free stroke). He swam the distance in 4m, 31s.
