NEW TORPEDO CARRIER.
HOVERING IN THE AIR. SUCCESS WITH HUGE MACHINE. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 8.25 p.m.) LONDON. July 20. A huge Handley-Page torpedo-carrying aeroplane, during the course of its trials, hovered almost stationary in the air. This result was achieved by means of adjustable slotted wings, which prevented the nose of the machine from dropping when the engine was shut off. It is believed that by this means aeroplanes will be able to laud on the decks of ordinary warships.
