PROFESSORS' TOURS.
YEAR'S LEAVE OF ABSENCE. TEMPORARY APPOINTMENTS'. Leave of absence for a year was yesterday grafted to Professors (X W, Egerton and A. B. Fitt- by the Auckland University College Council. The leave is under the sabbatical year scheme by which all professors of the college in turn are granted leave for a year once in every seven years. Professors Egerton andjiFitt will be away all next year. It is the intention of Professor Egerton to visit the universities of Great Britain. Professor Fitt will take advantage of a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship to visit the universities of the United States and Canada.
To carry on the work in the chair of English during the absence of Professor Egerton, the council appointed Mr. S. F. Meiklejohn to control the department, giving him Mr. P. S. Ardern as assistant. The chair of education, of which Professor Fitt is in charge, will be carried on bv Mr. H. G. Cousins, principal of the Training College. Mr. Duncan Rea, of the Training College staff, will take part of the pass work, while the advanced and honours work will be divided among Messrs. A. B. Thompson, W. McKinlay and W. H. Entwhistle.
