EVASION OF PROHIBITION.
„ LIQUOR SMUGGLING. BRITAIN AND CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. By Telegraph—Press Association—JCopyright. (Received 11.5 p.m.) Renter. WASHINGTON, May 4. Tho Secretary of State, Mr. F. B. Kellogg, said to-day that Britain desires to do her part toward preventing the smuggling of liquor into the United States. Tho British Government had advised him to that effect and had suggested that a conference should be held to work out by informal agreements co-operative measures to tighten the liquor blockade. An invitation to a conference proposed to bo held shortly in London had been accepted, said Mr. Kellogg. Correspondence between Washington and London on the subject has been made public. This discloses that tho idea for tighter restrictions with Britain's aid originated with tho British authorities. Tho invitation to the conference was extended as a proof of tho desire of the British Government to give such assistance to American prohibition agencies as it is possible to give in tho circumstances. Mr. Kellogg said the American delegation would arrive in London by the end of May.
