DETERIORATED LANDS.
AREAS IN SOUTH ISLAND. INSPECTION BY THE MINISTER. As applications for relief undor the Deteriorated Lands Act are coming to hand from settlers in the Nelson and West Coast districts the Minister of Lands, Hon. A. D. McLeod, intends to pay a visit of inspection to the areas concerned next week. At present the Act applies only to tho North Island, but the Minister stated in Parliament last session that, although tho legislatibn would apply in tho first placo tr certain areas in this Island, it would bo difficult to restrict it to thoso areas. Applications have been received through Mr. 11. P. Hudson, M.P. for Motueka, for the proclamation of certain areas in tho Nelson and West Coast districts, but before deciding tho matter the Minister has decided to make a personal inspection of the lands.
