REPAIRING OF A BRIDGE.
A MAYOR ASKED TO RESIGN. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] RAETIHI, Wednesday. There is much speculation whether the Mayor may have to resign his office. Tho question arises out of the Makotuku Stream Bridge repairs. When the bridge collapsed his partner was engaged to effect repairs, the partnership being annulled for the time being. Some hold that the Mayor committed a breach of office and ho has been requested to resign. He refuses to do so, however, on tho grounds that as the matter was ono of extreme urgency ho considered it his duty to get Ine _work performed as expeditiously as possible, and as there was no other "man available to do tho special work required his partner was requosled to carry il out.
