RAILWAY TRAFFIC.
BUSY STATION SCENE. THREE EXPRESSES FOR SOUTH. * i OVER 700 PASSENGERS. In spito of the wet and disheartening weather, the Auckland railway station had a distinct holiday atmosphere last evening. From six o'clock until halfpast eight a large and, for the most part, good-humoured crowd of Easter holiday makers continued to gather on the platforms to connect with expresses for Wellington. In addition to the limited and ordinary expresses a third loft for Wellington at 8.40 o'clock. They wero all well filled and took away altogether over 700 passengers. The scene on the outer platform was animated with the buzz of the human traffic. Red-capped porters, carrying largo trunks, pushed and urged their way through the dense crowd, and small children made themselves heard above the din when momentarily they lost sight of their guardians. Tho luggage of many betrayed their holiday pastime. Fishing rods and rifles were seen in largo numbers, while one or two youths had mountaineering picks slung over their backs. Two blushing Easter brides, with their brand-now husbands, were given away by confetti showered upon them by their friends. A largo number of Maoris with multifarious luggage left by the expresses on their way to the Ratana camp. The daylight limited from Wellington was filled to overflowing. At To Kuiti about fifteen were standing, and when the train reached Auckland over one hundred were in this plight. A large volume of passenger traffic is expected to-day.
