Jan. 24 The fire which destroyed Crowe Hall, Bath, the home of Madame Sarah Grand, the novelist, as well as many art treasures,- . occurred at midnight. The outbreak was discovered by the . cook, Florence Allen, who roused the household, including nine guests, several i 0 f whom were rescued through blazing j windows. Molten lead from the roof scalded some j ot the firemen. j Madame Grand and others escaped in their night attire. The domestics crawled to a parapet from which all were rescued i excepting the cookj who was afraid to | venture.
