POSJTION OF MR. NGATA.
REFORM MEMBER'S OPINION.
The message from Wellington yesterday stating that a prominent member of the National Party thought it likely the Prime Minister- would offer the. Hon. A. T. Ngata a portfolio in the new Cabinet was yesterday brought under .the notice of a prominent member of the Reform Party. Ha said it was quite true the Prime IVlinister had a very high regard for Mr. Ngata, -bufc he entirely discredited the motive attributed to the Prime Minister, namely, that the appointment would be made with the , object of forcing the Labour Party on to the Opposition benches. It was common property, the member said, that'toward the, end of last session the Prime Minister would have been glad to have ; 'found a place for Mr. Ngata in his Cabinet if such" action could have been taken without, cremating misunderstanding 'within the ranks of the Reform Party., To anyone who studied closely some of the crucial divisions toward the end of the session,- it might not be difficult to appreciate the Prime. Minister's goodwill for Mr. 'Ngata. The tone ,of the message from indicated the political mentality of the prominent Nationalist who inspired it. • v ■
