PLAY AT WHANGAREI. PAIRS TOURNEY RESULTS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Monday. A pairs tourney waa played on the Whangarei Bowling Club's green on Saturday afternoon, 24 pairs competing. The section winners were:—Section 1, Kerr and Crane; section 2, Donaldson and Hill; section 3, Maurer and Moorcroft. Collins 'and, Judd and England and Birch tiad in section 4. The latter pair won'tuo play-off. Hill and Donaldson beat Kerr and Crane by 9 to 1 and England and Birch beat Maurer and Moorcroft by 9 to 6. Eure, 12. _ In section A Moody and Wilkie each so cured five vvins and two losses. The B section ended in a similar tie between Bertram and Ferguson. In the play-off, 11 heads, Moody 13, beat Wilkie, 8 and Bertram, 20, beat Ferguson, 5. The final was played under a hot sun. There were many spectators, including ladies. Moody was two up on the first head and held his lead to the fifth, when, he was 4—2. Qn the next head Bertram with hie last bowl drove his opponent out and got three, making him one up. Moody got three in [ the next and continued to forge ahead until at the end of the 10th head he stood 12—5. ! A splendid shot with his last bowl secured Bertram two on the next. From the 12th ! hend, however, Moody drew sttadily away, I getting one in each to the 17tlj, when the j score stood at 18 to 7 in his favour. Bertram and his team made a hard fight, in the next, i head, but Moody got three. On the 19th Bertram got a similar nnmber, making the j score 21—10. The game finished on the next [ head, Bertram getting two and Moody being : thus 21—12. The Francis Cup was presented to Moody by Mr. A. Braae, president of the Opotiki Club, who congratulated the winners on their victory for the secoiid year in succession He also congratulated, the runners-up on the good fight they had made. The Forbes Cup, which was won by the Taneatua B team, was presented to Ferguson, the skip. PLAY AT TAURAXGA. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Monday. All-day tournaments were held on the Tauranga bowling green ori New Year's Day and Saturday, 36 players participating on each day. Lecocq and Sidebottom vron the skips, and Eliery tho leads on New Year's Day. Deakin and ■ Valentine, Phillips and Dive. Crowley and Sharp, jind Allely and Rowo tied for ths skips on Saturday, and J. A. McKenzie and Green for the leads. The ::eads divided. The draw for the play-off between thei skips resulted in Sharp beating Phillips and Valentine beating Rowe. Valentine bestt Sharp in the final.
