AUCKLAND FRUITGROWERS.

BENEFIT FROM ADVERTISING. DECISIONS OF THE COUNCIL,, The council of the Auckland Provincial Fruitgrowers' Association met on Thursday, the president, Mr. S. W. House, presiding. The scheme for advertising fruit was the subject of long discussion. Mr. W. .J. Rodgers submitted a written report, in which he stated that considerable benefit had loeen derived from the advertising already undertaken. However, it was to be regretted that support had not been forthcoming from some o! the brokers. Others had worked hard and were in a large measure responsible for the success achieved. Nearly £350 had been raised. Discussion on the qaiter of carrying on the scheme was adjourned until a special meeting next Friday evening. Ta? Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. W. Nosworthy, wrote stating he was considering sending the Director of Horticulture, Mr. J. A. Campbell, to England in the early part of tjiis year. It was reported that an estimated number of 400,000 cases of fruit would be exported from the Dominion this season. This would include 21,975 cases of apples, together with a few cases of pears from the Auckland Province, A rejport from the Export Control Board stated the embargo on New Zealand fruit importation to the Argentine had been removed, and that an officer from the Argentine Government would visit New Zealand in February to make personal investigations of the fruit industry here. Mr. G. A. Green reported that two new associations, Avalon and Whangarei, were asking for affiliation. Citrus growers in all parts of the Dominion were looking for Horticultural Week to be held in Dunedin to do a lot of good.. The citrus tiees sent down to the exhibition were doing very well, and the Citrus Association was sending a man down to look after its special interests. A small start had been made in citrus improvement, but a great amount of work remains to be done. State aid for specialised research work in plant development was urgently needed.
