BITTEN BY A HORSE.
STOREMAN'S PAINFUL INJURY. A painful injury, inflicted under unusual circumstances, befell Mr. John McWhinnie, a storeman, at Masterton last week, with the result that lie will be incapacitated for some time. At five o'clock in tho evening, when all customers' horses aro supposed to bo removed from the stables at tho rear of tho store, Mr. McWhinnie proceeded to place the bridlo on a liorso whoso owner was late in calling for it. As tho blinkers were being slipped over the animal's noso if snapped at Mr. McWhinnie's head and embedded its teeth firmly through his lips and below his chin. With difficulty Mr. McWhinnio freed himself from the grip of tho animal, but not befor» ho had been badly disfigured and painfully hurt. Medical assistance was quickly called and the insertion of several stitches in both lips and an incision and stitches below tho chin were found necessary. Mr. McWliiri®io was removed to his home, where ho is progressing favourably. He has been in his present position for some years and was regarded as an expert with horses.
