TRADE WITH ITALY. CHANCE FOR NEW ZEALAND. .NEW STEAMSHIP SERVICES. [>ROM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.} LONDON, Nov. 0. Mr. Victor A. Amodco, previously of Auckland, who has been well established in business in Trieste sinco 1900, is interested in direct trading between Italy and New Zealand. Ho is at present president of the council of all the British Chambers of Commerce in Italy. In a letter, Air. Amode.o mentions that an important steamship company of Trieste, the Navigaziono Libera Triestina, has started a direct line of steamers from Trieste, Venice, Naples, Genoa, Marseilles, through the Panama Canal, to the Pacific ports of North America, and that they will soon be starting another regular service from Trieste through the Suez Canal to Capetown. "It has occurred to me," Mr. Amodco says, "that with the aid of these direct lines from California to tlio Mediterranean and Adriatic and subsequently r,he other direct lino from Capetown to the Mediterranean. and Adriatic, there ought to be a possibility of developing trade between New Zealand and the Mediterranean. Transhipments of goods could be arranged at the terminal ports of San Francisco on the. ono hand, and at Capetown on tho other. "The steamers of the Navigaziono Libera Triestina are large, well-appointed vessels, having refrigerating installation. Tho speed will be 12 knots, and they will be steamers ranging from 6000 to 8000 tons."

SHIPMENT TO AUSTRALIA. [FROM Ot.'R OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] SUVA. Nov. 27. A fine consignment of choice bananas left here for Australia yesterday by the Ventura. They came from the distant island of Kandavu, which has never been known to have any kind of disease in its fruit. The islanders have been planting the choicest of China or Cavendish bananas during the past two or three years and can now produce sufficient fruit to guarantee a reasonable shipment every month. Tho shipment was intended for the Auckland market, but the vessel bringing the shipment did not reach Suva until after the Tofua had sailed. The Government arc blamed for being overstrict in their examination of the shipment and only tho Choicest fruit left Suva yesterday.
