WAIKATO HOSPITALS.
SUPERINTENDENT'S REVIEW, [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COP,SXSPGNIHSSrr-] HAMILTON. Thursday. The Waskato Hospital Board met, Mr. J. P. Bailey presiding. The medical superintendent, Dr. L. A. Lewis, reported that 175 patients had fc«en admitted to the Waikato Hospital last mouth. Deaths numbered 23, and 174 patients were discharged. At the end of the month 191 remained in the institution. The operations performed numbered 114. There were 34 inmates in the Old Men's Horn®, Eight patients had been admitted to the Matamata Hospital and four to the Kawhia Hospital The Arapuni district nurse had attended 113 out-patients -and had made 48 visits. At Mokai 36 patients had been attended by the district nurse, while 45 visits had been made to natives by the board's native nurse, who reported that influenza was very prevalent at all pas, otherwise the health of the natives was good. The Director-General of Health advised that the Public Works Department had declined to make any contribution toward the cost of providing medical facilities for the men at Arapuni. The medical officer of health reported favourably on the Matamata maternity cottage hospital, and recommended, in view of the increased use feeing made of the institution, that the staff be augmented. The matter was referred to the local member, Mr. J. Prica. The Health Department and the "board's engineer, Mr. Miles Schofisld, submitted reports on a scheme for modernising the hospital's heating plant. The estimated cost is £6BOO. The reports were referred to a committee for consideration.
