CAPTAIN COOK'S LANDING.
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS association. ] GISBOBNE, Thursday. The 155 th anniversary of Captain Cook's landing at Poverty Bay was celebrated this afternoon by wreaths being \ laid at the fcot of thfl memorial on liiaiti Beach. A message was received from the Royal Colonial Institute, London, stating: "May the work and example of t.hi» great pioneer ever be kept in the forefront and thus be an unfailing inspiration to all sous and daughters of our great Empire." Addresses were delivered by Mr. J. E. Kirk, Sir James Carroll and others.
