PAPER PULP INDUSTRY. TASMANIAN SCHEME DROPPED. Australian and N.Z. CablV Association. (Bwd. 8.5 p.m.) HOB ART. Oct. 8. The State Premier, Mr. ,T. A. Lyons, has received a letter from the Amalgamated Zinc Company stating that the proposal to establish the paper pulp industry in Tasmania has been abandoned. The reason given is that the offer made by the Commonwealth Government of £4 a ton bounty for paper is unsatisfactory. The company Bought a bounty of £6 a ton. * QUEENSLAND'S SURPLUS. £16,967 FOR THE PAST YEAR. (Reed. 9.85 p.m.) BRISBANE, Oct. 8. The annual report of the AuditorGeneral discloses that the financial year of the State Government ended with a surplus of £16,967. INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION. NEW SOUTH WALES BILL. (Reed. U. 5 p.m.) SYDNEY Oct. 8. In the Legislative Assembly to-day Mr. .1. M. Badrleley, Minister for Labour, introduced the Arbitration Act Amendment Bill. This provides for the abolition of the Arbitration Court and the Board of Trade and proposes to set up an industrial commission in their place. Under the measure this commission would consist of a chairman to be appointed by the Government and members to be appointed by the employers and the employees. Conciliation committees would also be appointed for each industry. The bill provides absolute preference to unionists. The proposed commission would fix the rate of the living wage twice a year.
