The Inter parliamentary Conference today resolved to support, the establishment of demilitarised zones between nations; | treaties between the nations represented j for the creation of non military zones; | and a general reduction in world armaments. Mr. Thomas Johnson (Irish Free State) withdrew a motion to the effect that the union support an agreement to permit the Dominions and possessions in the British Empire to remain neutral in the event of the British Government becoming ini volved in war. He substituted a suggestion, which the union accepted, that the | motion be kept in mind as a subject warj ranting future consideration, j Mr. Fusanoke Mayeda (Japan) said his country wished to join hands with other ( countries in the prosecution of any pro- : joct which was calculated to promote world peace. So long as armaments were kept in their present state, howover, he was afiaid there would be no I durable peace. HOW TO AVERT WARS. SPIRIT CF TOLERATION. MR. COOLIDGE'S OPINION. Renter. NEW YOl'K. Oct. 6. The President, Mr. Calvin Coolidge. to-day addressed the convention of the American Legion at Omaha, Nebraska. He uttered a warning to the effect that the world will be embroiled in more destructive wars than in the past unless a | universal spirit of toleiation is created, j Mr. Coolidge said he was a thorough ( believer in a policy of adequate military preparation. The real question was whether the spending of more money to ! make a better military force would make. I a better country.
