MOUNT ALBERT AFFAIRS.
POLICY OF THE COUNCIL. OUTLINE BY THE MAYOR. A brief outline of the policy of the Mount Albert Borough Council was given last evening by the Mayor, Mr, Lv E. Rhodes, at the annual meeting of the Mount Albert Ratepayers' Association. Mr. Rhodes said he understood the association was a very representative one and personally he saw no reason why such an association should not be a great help to any local body in the conduct of its affairs. Any recommendations the association might make in the interests of the district would receive most careful consideration. The present council was out for progress. Referring more particularly to the policy of the council, Mr. Rhodes said they were all pleased with the appointment of a resident engineer, and ha thought that in Mr. W. 11. Cook they had secured a really capable man. One had only to look at the New Plymouth roads to see the class of work to which Mr. Cook was accustomed., Storm water drainage was a burning question in Edendale, and Mr. Rhodes had been assured this week by Mr. H, H. Watkins, who had the matter in hand, that the scheme he was preparing would be ready to be submitted next Tuesday week. The problem had proved much nigger than was anticipated, and this caused delay- The recurrence of the flood menace in Edendale, which had proved so harassing to the residents would be a thing of the past when the scheme was carried out. Roading was a matter requiring attention, and the council was considering proposals for loans to carry out this very necessary work. The proposals would shortly be submitted to the ratepayers. It was quite impossible to carry on the works out of revenue. After touching 011 other questions the Mayor snid the council wanted to make Mount Albert one of the finest districts in Auckland. He hoped the ratepayers would authorise a loan for the erection of new municipal chambers. The present offices were a positive disgrace to a borough of the size of Mount Albert.
