MOUNT ROSKILL AFFAIRS.

PROGRESS OF DISTRICT. BUILDING STILL BRISK. Tho Mount Roskill Road Board met last evening, the chairman, Mr. G. E. Tansley, presiding. The residents of Hillsborough Road drew attention to the bad state of the road and asked that improvements be effected at once. The board agreed to form a footpath forthwith. The building inspector reported that during the past fortnight he had issued permits for seven dwellings and a number of other buildings, the total value being £6760. There were 46 dwellings in course of erection in the district. For the six months ended September 30 permits had been issued for 97 dwellings valued at £87,400, and garages and additions valued at £10,685, making a grand total of £98,085. The Mount Eden Borough Council offered to supervise, for fire-fighting purposes, a certain part of Roskill West, for £75 per annum. In view of the immunity of this area from fire, the board decided to confirm its previous offer of £6O per annum, provided the area supervised included the Victory Estate. A deputation from the district tennis club asked that the courts be again tarredi and a third court made. The chairman said there was only about £4O in the fund which could be used for these Improvements, and the board had other reserves which were equally entitled to expenditure. On his motion it was decided that Messrs. Preston and Scarborough should meet the committee of the club and report.
