SHOOTING AND FISHING.
CONTROL OF THE WAIKATO. ATTITUDE AT MATAMATA. A meeting of the Matamata Acclimatisation Sub-Society was held to discuss the attempted break-away by Waikato from the Auckland Acclimatisation Society. There were about 20 present, including license-holders from Matamata, Taihoa, Turaiigaomoana, Waharoa and Walton. Mr. W. W. Livingstone, of Matamata, occupied the chair, and explained the object of the meeting, outlining the recent negotiations on the part of the Waikato dissentients. After discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr. Seagar Mason: "That this meeting of Matamata and district shooting and fishing license holders decides to adhere to the Auckland Society, providing that body is willing to hold its meetings alternately at Auckland and Hamilton, and also provided each licenseholder is allowed to vote by proxy at annual meetings for the election of offi-. cers, or anything else pertaining to the welfare of the society." The Auckland petition is to be held up pending a reply to the above requests. In order to allow trout to mature it was agreed to request the society to close the Puriri and Waimakiriri streams for the 1925-26 season.
