A LOVE-SICK SWAIN.
DAMAGE TO BICYCLE TYRES. WANTED TO BE ESCORT. WRONG LADY'S MACHINE. [B\' TELEGRAPH.—OWN COHMSPONDENT. ] WANGANUI., Monday. A young man was charged to-day with wilfully damaging a bicycle at Aramoho to the extent of £2. Defendant evidently was love-sick and wanted to disable the bicycle so that his services as escort might be accepted. Senior-Sergeant Lopdell stated that a Salvation Arrnv meeting was being held at Aramoho. Defendant came on the scene and made inquiries about a young lady. He said he would puncture her " bike," then volunteer to fix it and escort her home. However, he punctured the wrong bicycle, as the young lady he referred to had her machine carefully put away in the hall. Another young lady, the owner of tho damaged machine, on coming out from the meeting could not understand what had happened. There were no less than 15 punctures in the tyres. The magistrate said defendant would be convicted. He would postpone the matter of sentence for a week if defendant would pay £2, the damage to the bicycle. He would also have to pay witness' expenses, 255.
