REVENUE FROM POSTAGE.
LOST GROUND NEARLY REGAINED
EFFECT OF REDUCTIONS.
The Postmaster-General, Sir James Parr, madb a statement in Wellington this week respecting the recovery of th<i postal revenue since the introduction of penny postage. The present trend of postal revenue was very interesting, he, said. The first reduction in the 2d letter rate had been to l£d and subsequently it had come down to Id. The reduction in rates had been brought about for public benefit, and it had been anticipated there would be a fall in revenue. It was now interesting to notice how the revenue after its sndaen fall was climbing back again toward the point from which it dropped. In July last the revenue failed by only about £I3OO to reach the amount received in the same, month two years ago when the letter rate had been ls>d. " I am pleased to predict," said Sir James, " and that with a great deal of confidence that within a month or two the revenue ' from postages will have passed the figure at which it stood when the rate was lid."
