THE CIVIC SQUARE.

Sir, —In common with many other ratepayers I consider that the time has arrived when the City Council ought to be compelled to condescend to state what they intend to do with this valuable property, which belongs to the citizens. Subdivided into building lots it would produce a revenue which would enable the rates to be reduced considerably, and the threatened tramway deficit to be faced with equanimity. At present this valuable block of ,land, which would produce a revenue of thousands of pounds if properly managed, is left by our councillors, in spito of their election pledges of economy, in a state that cannot be described as either useful or ornamental. Ratss.
