INTERESTS OF THAMES.
A CITIZENS' ASSOCIATION. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] THAMES. Tuesday. Tho first committee meeting of tho newly-formed Ratepayers' Association was held last evening, Mr. Lloyd acting as chairman and presiding over a good attendance. The election of officers resulted: —Chairman, Mr. R. Muir; vicechairman, Mr. Alexander McLean; secretary and treasurer, Mr. McCombie; executive committee, Messrs. A. Bryan, C. Feara, Adamson, Burr, Gleeson, Thomas, Harwell and F. Clark, seven to form a quorum, including the chairman and secretary. It was decided that tho object of the association was puruly to further the progress of Thames in tho economic government of the town. Tho association was entitled tho Thames Ratepayers and Citizens' Association.
Mr. Bryan moved that a letter be sent to the Borough Council informing it of tho formation of tho association and that it desired that a statement of the borough financial affairs be given to the public at a public meeting before any further loan proposals aro placed before tho ratepayers. This was seconded and carried. In a discussion regarding the pending of delegates to Borough Council meetings, mention was made that most of the work was done in committee and it would bo rather profitless for members to attend. No action was taken.
