DISSATISFIED SEAMEN.
THE WILLASTON STRIKE.
SETTLEMENT IN COURT. [by telegraph.—mess association.] CHRISTCHURCH. Tuesday. Seventeen members of the crew of the steamer Willaston were charged with impeding the progress of the voyage of the ship by refusing duty. The case against the chief cook was taken first. The master of the vessel said the crew had behaved well since leaving England but they refused to go to sea because six men he had had to engage in New Zealand were receiving a higher rato of wages and they wanted to be placed on the same level. The cook was convicted and ordered to forfeit seven days' pay. Notice of appeal
was given. Subsequently a settlement was readied between the master and the men and the remaining charges were withdrawn.
