New Zealand, was played mi. Liner,ster Park yesterday. New Zealand winning by 53 points to 17. The conditions were good and there was a largo attendance of the public. Sydney kicked off against a light southerly and within a few minutes had a try registered against them by Webb, which Oregan converted. New Zealand pressed hard, but ultimately Sydney took a hand and Tilbury spoiled a certain score bv failing to take a pass. A shot- from a penalty failed, and then a New Zealand forward attack saw Draden score behind the, .posts. Oregan converted. T"ia visitors tried several passing rushes, but nothing came of them. The:;' first score came tram a penalty which Williams kicked from a difficult angle. Another New Zealand forward rush saw Owen score and Oregan kick a poster. After a fine run by Malfroy, the forwards came, to light again and JDrader scored a try, which Oregan converted. Bad handling lost, New Zealand what looked to bo certain tries. The visitors took a hand, but lost Newton owing to an injury and Smith took his place. The New Zealanders were penned in their own territory for a while and McDermott scored a, try for tho visitors, which was not converted. Brodie, Shaw and Malfroy participated in a passing rush, which paw the lastnamed score for New Zealand and Stevenson converted. At half-time New Zealand was leading by 23 points to six. On play being resumed Sydney forced to save trouble and then attacked. McDermott mulled a, pass and a chance of scoring was lost, Williams missed v'th a penalty and then Johnson side-stepped Webb and Malfroy and ran round behind tho posts to score for Sydney. Williams converted. Very bright play followed by both sides and finally Tilbury scored an unconverted try for the. visitors. A kick by Williams, Sydney's fullback, was smothered by Oregan. who dribbled across and added ihc extra points. Passing bouts by the, New Zealanders broke down through Smart not taking his passes. A forward was penalised and Williams landed an easy goal for Sydney. Just, before time, Malfroy scored again for New Zealand and Stevenson converted, the match ending: New Zealand, 33: Sydney, 17. Mr. L. Gjuiney was the referee.
