AN HISTORIC SHIELD.
RESTORATION TO QUEBEC. Quebec's historic shield, taken from the gates of that city when it was captured m 1759, is to return home. This decision has been arrived at by a large majority of the Hastings Town Council, in whoso possession the trophy has reposed for ISO years. The shield was presented to Hastings by General Murray, who was with Geuercl Wolfe when tho city fell. Many attempts have been made in the past to obtain the return of the trophy, but all previous requests had been refused. The town clerk, however, has received letters from the High Commissioner for Canada and from tho Mayor of Quebec, asking for its restoration, and tho Hastings Council has at last agreed to send it back. Tho trophy will be conveyed to Quebec by Viscount Willingdon, who had requested that he might act as the special emissary of Hastings to hand ovor tho shield personally.
