MERCHANTS FAREWELLED.
AFTERNOON AT CRICKET. Prior to their departure on a visit to Great Britain, Mr. Frank M. Winstone and Mr. Ernest Yates were tendered a complimentary luncheon at Eden Park cricket pavilion on Wednesday afternoon, by the merchants and brokers of the Auckland grain, seed and produce trade. Mr, H, S. Eastgate, on behalf of tho merchants, and Mr. H. D. Roberton, on behalf of the brokers, made very happy speeches, in which they pointed out tno importance of such a trade as seeds and manure to a young country like New Zealand, and what good pasture meant to the future prosperity of this country. They eulogised the good work both the guests had done for 'the trade generally, and as a mark of their respect and esteem, presented to each a New Zealand travelling rug. The luncheon vas followed by a cricket match between the merchants and brokers, during which afternoon tea was dispensed and tne whole affair was a very happy and pleasant function. The brokers scored! 149 runs against the merchants' 136, thus winning by 13 runs. Tha highest scores for the brokers were: W. Wilson 38, not out,. Bennett 31, Herbert 16, Longue 14, Postles 10; and for the merchants Otter 50, not out, Lewis 27 Stewart 10.
